De werkgroep verwijst hierbij naar de Amerikaanse richtlijnen (pagina 99: Considerations in managing patients with HIV-2 infections), waarbij de volgende opmerkingen worden gemaakt:
Belangrijkste aanvulling is ten aanzien van de groepen nieuwe antiretroviralen.
- Intrinsieke resistentie van HIV-2 t.o.v. enfurvitide [Poveda, 2004];
- Gevoeligheid van HIV-2 voor PI is wisselend: beste PI lijken lopinavir, saquinavir en darunavir [Desbois, 2008; Brower, 2008];
- Over de effectiviteit van integraseremmers t.o.v. HIV-2 zijn weinig beschikbare data [Roquebert, 2008];
- De effectiviteit van maraviroc tov HIV-2: weinig beschikbare data met wisselende resultaten. Er is geen test om tropisme van HIV-2 vast te stellen.
- Amprenavir en waarschijnlijk ook fosamprenavir zijn niet werkzaam tegen HIV-2 [[page+AND+Ntemgwa+M[author]&cmd=detailssearch Ntemgwa, 2007]].
